Terrorism
should be curbed everywhere
AN
INITIATIVE BY
INTERNATIONAL
PEACE ORGANIZATION
A
forum taking place against the new
threats to international peace and security
“An
international organization against terrorism should be established. This is not
a fight between states or governments; it is a fight against terrorism. The
destruction and death of innocent people as a result of terrorism- and terrorism
itself can never be supported or defended.”
(Mr. Rouf R.Denktas President, TRNC)
“Terrorist
acts in all forms and manifestations, committed wherever, whenever and by
whomsoever are a profound threat to the peace, prosperity and security of all
peoples of all faiths, of all nations.”
(Joint Statement issued by Asia Pacific Summit in China)
“We
unequivocally condemn in the strongest terms the horrifying terrorist attacks in
New York City, Washington DC and Pennsylvania on September 11 and consider such
acts as an attack against humanity and an assault on all of us.”
(Joint Statement issued by ASEAN Leaders on November 5, 2001)
“Such
inhuman acts, in the final analysis, are directed against all humanity, against
civilization, against freedom, against all religions.”
(Imam Mohammad Gemeaha Islamic
Cultural Center of New York, Manhattan)
“Terrorism
is not just the bombing as we saw in the destruction in New York and Washington
DC, there were also terror in other fields. There was terror of hunger, of fear,
of politically motivated bomb and we will address all elements of terror.”
(Wendy Chamberlain, Ambassador of USA to
Pakistan)
The
United Nations should urgently define parameters of terrorism including
international terrorism and state terrorism. In the absence of a clear
definition of terrorism, countries can try to legitimate repressive actions
against freedom fighters and indulge in serious human rights violations. The
world body should adopt a comprehensive convention on all aspects of terrorism.
The proposed convention should incorporate strategy to fight terrorism both at
the internal and external fronts. The international community must address the
menace of state terrorism.
(The News October 24, 2001)
“Terrorism
threatens not just individual states but the entire system of strategic
stability. We know that the aim of the terrorists is to obtain weapons of mass
destruction. Bioterrorism has already become a fact.”
(Vladimir Putin, Russian President at annual meeting with armed forces
commanders.
November 12, 2001)
Taliban

Pierre Billoud, Johanne Sutton and German journalist Volkar Handloik.

President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf, meeting with US President George Bush, said Wednesday he is 'REASONABLY sure' that Deniel Pearl is alive, report AP. The News Feb.14, 2002
Pearl is DEAD. A British-born Muslim militant Sheikh Omar admitted Thursday ' As far as I understand he is dead'. In response to a question from the anti-terrorism court judge, Omer said 'yes, I kidnap him' The News Feb.15, 2002
World condemns killing. A video tape received by the US Consulate in Karachi Thursday Feb.21, 2002 contained scenes showing Mr. Pearl in captivity and scenes of his murder by the kidnappers. The three minutes videotape focuses on the abducted 38 years old reporter, who is speaking, the source said. 'The camera is focused on Pearl's faces. Suddenly his head is chopped off and a blunt weapon was used.' The News Lahore Feb 23, 2002
'The murder of Daniel Pearl is a shocking act of barbarism,' said Koichiro Matsuura, Director General UNESCO. This gruesome crime is especially repugnant in view of the motive that appear to have drive its perpetrators; the fact that Daniel Pearl was an investigative reporter, seeking to shed light on an important story of international concern, the fact he was a US citizen, the fact he was a Jew.' he said.
"The crime highlights the enormous dangers encountered by journalists, particularly in areas of conflict and violence, said Kofi Annan Secretary-General United Nations. The News Lahore Feb 23, 2002
" I am outraged by the terrorist attack took place today in Islamabad against innocent civilians. I strongly condemn them as act of murder that cannot be tolerated by any person of conscience nor justified by any cause.'' George W. Bush President of USA. March 17, 2002.
